The Functional Family

I was looking through the February 2009 Ensign and came across an article that really hit me and I can't stop thinking about it. It is called The Functional Family. I felt like this is just what I needed to read. People always talk about dysfunctional families, but what are we doing to make sure that we have functional families.

I feel like I get so busy just doing the basics and surviving life that I forget the whole reason that I had a family and what the end goal is for us. I am so busy taking care of the day to day things that I forget the things that really have meaning. I need to live more intentionally and make sure my children know what is important. If I want my children to be patient, I need to be patient with them. This is a very good article and I recommend everyone read this.

Embarassing!

As I said in a previous post I've had a pretty bad cold for a few days and can't seem to kick it. The last day or two have been a little rough. This afternoon I was feeling pretty crummy, Treyton was taking a nap, so I got the kids some lunch and turned on the cartoons. I laid down on the couch and immediately fell asleep. My house looked like a hurricane hit, and I didn't even care. The next thing I knew my sister in law Angie was in my house to come and see if Savanna and Mitch could come and play. Treyton was awake and running amuck and I looked like the biggest slacker of a mother. She, of course, was very kind and offered to take my kids so I could continue my nap but I felt so dumb that I couldn't go back to sleep. Instead Treyton and I spent a few hours cuddling and reading books. I just hope that by tomorrow I have a little more energy!

Congratulations Leah!

My younger sister Leah got engaged tonight! We are really excited for her, she is marrying a guy names Tony. He is a really nice guy and treats her like gold. We just want her to be happy! Savanna was kind of sad when she heard because she doesn't want Leah to move out of my parents house. She thinks she won't get to see her anymore. She doesn't realize she will still be here in IF. It is kind of cute that she is concerned about not seeing her Leah as much.

Ok, so just in the last few days my belly has really starting to pop out. It is kind of a rough stage, because it is not super obvious that I am pregnant, I just look like I have put on some weight. I am starting to pull out the maternity clothes, I would rather feel pregnant than just fat.

I have had a bit of a cold, and my cough is pretty bad. I can't seem to kick it, it makes trying to sleep at night miserable because I keep waking myself up with coughing. Between that and waking up in the middle of the night to Treyton throwing up, I didn't get much sleep last night. I am having a hard time today having any energy to get anything done. Oh well, the housework will still be here tomorrow.

Happy Birthday Reid!

Today is my husband Reid's 34th birthday. That makes me feel old, especially since I am almost 2 years older than he is.

For his birthday tonight we took the kids and went to Wendy's, the movie "Bedtime Stories", and then to Sub Zero for icecream. Reid's brother and Dad own Sub Zero. (So much for my goal of spending less money in 09) I guess I start again tomorrow. I feel really lucky to be married to someone that treats me so good, works so hard, and loves his kids so much.

We keep promising our kids that we are going to take them sledding on Iona hill, but we haven't been able to go either because of work schedules, or bad weather or whatever the reason. So today we planned on going since Reid was off work. But then I had a Dentist appointment and a church meeting and before you know it, it is dark outside. So we went ahead and went anyway as not to have crying children, and we had a blast. We went for only 1 hour, and it was dark and there wasn't much snow but we had so much fun.

18 weeks & New Year's celebrations

I went to the Dr. this morning for my 18 week check-up, so far everything is looking good with the baby. I was able to schedule my 20 week ultra sound for friday the 23rd. I am really excited to find out what we are having. Anybody have any guesses?

We had a really good New Year's this year. Reid didn't have to work and so for New Years eve we were able to go out to a movie and dinner. We watched "Marley & Me" which made me bawl my eyes out. And I don't even like dogs. And we went to dinner at Johnny Carino's. Reid' Mom so generously offered to watch our kids so that we could have a date night. But we were still in bed by 11:30 at night. I didn't even care if we didn't stay up and welcome in the New Year.

On New Years Day we went to my Grandpa & Grandma Romrell's house and had our annual soup party and played games with some cousins. It is always fun to get together and see some family that we don't get to see very often.

I spent the rest of the weekend hanging out with my family and playing lots of rounds of "wacky 6" and "phase 10". It was a lot of fun, but I am definately ready to get back on a regular routine.

In other exciting news Treyton went to nursery on sunday for the first time with no fuss and stayed the whole time. I knew that 9:00 am church would make a huge difference. It is pretty sad that he turned 2 in October and this Sunday was the first time he actually stayed in nursery. Oh well, better late than never!
